Complex Commercial Matters

Whether it's in court or through arbitration, we have the experience and reputation to leverage litigation in order to drive resolution in corporate disputes. We have acted in franchisor/ee disputes, oppression remedies, derivative actions, and other matters requiring adept counsel to navigate the complex substantive and procedural issues that arise in these areas of law. We use our reputation as successful trial lawyers to drive settlement and we understand that oftentimes litigation is a subset of a broader relationship that needs to be maintained.

Real Property Disputes

Real property disputes arise in a number of contexts: disputes over agreements of purchase and sale, leasing disputes, mortgage actions, and more. We understand the substantive law surrounding these issues and we have a proven track record in driving such disputes to resolution.

Professional and Personal Liability

Professional liability claims are some of the most stressful types of allegations because they strike at the core of your reputation. Personal liability claims are similarly a significant source of pressure because they threaten your personal economic health. In both contexts, we have represented dozens and hundreds of clients, and we take a pragmatic approach to bringing the litigation to an end whether it be at trial or through settlement. Every client's risk tolerance is different in these highly personal disputes, and we collaborate intensively with you to achieve the best result in each case.

Criminal & Regulatory

We have prosecuted and defended many individuals charged with criminal offences and allegations of professional misconduct. Our experience spans some of the highest profile cases in Canada and also some you have never heard of (by design). Our clients can trust our extensive experience to guide them in these types of litigation, which often entail the most dire consequences both personally and professionally.

Construction

leigh.law offers consultations to identify legal issues in your construction project regardless of what stage it is at. We strongly recommend that owners and contractors alike consult a construction lawyer early and often in the project to prevent minor issues or disputes from snowballing into major ones. We assist contractors, developers, architects, and property owners at every stage of a project. Our team of experienced legal professionals understands the complexities and nuances of construction proiects and the application of the Construction Act, the legislation that governs them. Reaching out now for a consultation will save vou time, money and headaches later.

We represent residential sellers and purchasers in disputes relating to failed or aborted APS transactions, after-sale defects discovered at the property, and negligence claims against agents, brokers, and brokerages.

For Lawyers...

Whether you need legal research, a second chair, or someone to outsource overflow work to, we can handle it. We bring a vast amount of experience across a broad range of legal disciplines. Private practice can be a daunting endeavour whether due to the legal issues or the nature of the opposition. We’re here to collaborate and help.

For Clients...

We understand that lawyers and litigation are expensive. It doesn’t always make sense to retain a lawyer to represent you in every aspect of your matter, in court, or at all. That’s why we provide bespoke retainers to our clients depending on the complexity of their matter, the amount at stake, or their level of experience. Whether it be drafting documents, providing behind-the-scenes advice, or coaching going into a hearing, we have you covered. If you have a small claims matter or another type of dispute where you need advice or coaching, but not full-fledged representation, we are here to help.
